Fix 'Current Security Settings Do Not Allow This File To Be Downloaded'
Tue, 04 Mar 2014 13:41

If you ever get the warning 'Your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded' This brief article will tell you how to fix it. You normally only see this if you are on a server or you have very strict internet access settings.

  1. Open Internet Explorer browser
  2. Go to Tools menu
  3. Select Internet Options
  4. Go to Security tab
  5. Select Internet zone
  6. Click on "Custom level…”
  7. Under Downloads category, enable the option 'File download'
  8. Under Miscellaneous category, select Prompt (recommended) for the option 'Launching applications and unsafe files'
  9. Under Miscellaneous category, select Prompt (recommended) for the option 'Launching programs and files in an IFRAME'
  10. Click OK to apply the changes
  11. Leave the Internet Options
  12. Close the browser
  13. Re-open it, the warning should be gone, and you should be able to download files through IE.

This is not recommended as a perment solution for a production server but is a good work around if you need to download a large file from the microsoft download centre direct to your server, also you can always reverse the settings again after your download has completed.
