How to unlock a file locked on a network share
Fri, 31 Jan 2014 09:55

If you're using Windows, launch compmgmt.msc and then right-click on Computer Management (Local Computer) at the top of the tree and Connect to Another Computer. Type in the hostname or IP address of the host of your share. Expand System Tools, it could take a minute or two. Then expand Share Folders and go to Open Files. A list of open files and their network users should populate the list to the right. Look for the locked file and right click on it and select "Close Open File". Once the file has been closed it will be fully accessable again.

If you are directly accessing the server the file is stored on, launch compmgmt.msc, expand System Tools. Then expand Share Folders and go to Open Files. Look for the locked file and right click on it and select "Close Open File".
